II.    Map from Sebastian Münster’s Cosmographia 1.      Cosmographia is a 16th century, encyclopedic atlas of the world by the German cartographer Sebastian Münster.  This map shows the area of Eastern Anatolia, Georgia, Armenia, the Caucasus and upper-Volga.  The first German edition of Cosmographia was printed in 1544, then was contentiously revised & reprinted into 1628, in various languages. III.  Map from Sebastian Münster’s Cosmographia 1.      Map is titled, “Sarmatia Asie” (Sarmatian Asia) was the ancient region of Europe occupied by Sarmatians between the Vistula River (in Poland) & the Caspian Sea, during 3rd Century BC to 2nd Century AD.  Map shows only the Eastern region, extending into Asia Minor. IV.    Map from Sebastian Münster’s Cosmographia 1.      This is a very early, original antique woodblock print, on fine laid paper.  See below, the vertical chain lines & the horizontal laid lines. V.      Map from Sebastian Münster’s Cosmographia 1.      The back of the folio is titled: “Von den Laendern Asie” (Countries of Asia). VI.    Map from Sebastian Münster’s Cosmographia 1.      In good, clean readable condition, some spotting & light edge toning.  Old restoration & reinforcement on the side edges, and a small “mouse eaten” missing portion on top edge.
