Striking and highly detailed
interesting 1708 Wouter Schouten's copper engraved view of the Point de Galle, Sri Lanka. The view shows the city of Galle with his buildings, churches, harbor and surrounding landscape. Several VOC sailing ships, Dutch Marchands and several Natives adorn the plate

Very strong and dark impression on good paper. Paper with chains. Plate uncolored. Quite
margins. Small foxing and browning. Plate folded. Conditions are as you can see in the images

Cartographer:
Wouter Schouten (1638-1704) joined the Dutch VOC as a surgeon on an adventureous expedition to the East Indies during the years 1658-1665. In 1660 he was present at the Dutch siege of Makassar (in Sulawesi) and he participated in the campaigns of Rucklof van Goens along the Malabar coast. He also visited Bengal, Arakan, Colombo, Sumatra, the Moluccas, and Ambonia.
