Description:
Striking and highly detailed
fine unusual large 1822 Felix Delamarche & Charles Dien's copper engraved map of
the Asian Continent. The map is filled with excellent topographic detail on cities, towns, rivers, lakes, relifs and islands. A simple title cartouche, a legend key along riight lateral side and six mileage scales complete the map.

Condition:
Very strong and dark impression on good paper. Paper with chains and wiremarks. Map old original colored. Wide margins. Corners partially missing. Small foxing and browning. Small waterstains. Map folded. Conditions are as you can see in the images

Mapmakers:
Félix Delamarche was a French geographer and engineer who flourished during the 18th century and early 19th century. His father was the map publisher Charles François Delamarche. Félix Delamarche became the owner of his father's map publishing company, Maison Delamarche. He ran the company alongside cartographer Charles Dien. The firm would eventually be passed down to Alexandre Delamarche. Delamarche created Atlas de la géographie ancienne et moderne in 1820. The atlas was reprinted during the 19th century. It was utilized by the Ecole Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr.
Charles Dien (1809 - 1870) was a French cartographer, astronomer, and globe maker associated with the observatory of Paris. Dien also helped to improve the construction of globes and spheres. He was also a noted author of books and manuals concerning the use of scientific instruments and was a frequent collaborator with Félix Delamarche.
