    Description

    L'Asie.
(Asia- Arabia- India- Persia- China- Russia- Tartary- japan- Philippines).
Issued 1719, Paris by Jacques Chiquet.
Charming little early 18th century antique engraved map with original outline hand color.
Nice decorative visual appeal with large banner cartouche top right corner which includes a smoking lamp.
Note how Korea is surrounded by two long rivers which is left obscure if it is an island by the clever placement of the letter "O" by the engraver in the world "Chinoise". Japan extends east to west with a large undefined Land of Jesso above. Note the distorted shapes, including India. Source of the Nile river in Africa is located within what is certainly the apocryphal Mountains of the Moon range of the interior.
Map displays light old dampstaining along edge, but otherwise displays a fine age patina.
    Sheet measures c. 8"H x 10"W.
    Printed area measures c. 6 1/2"H x 9"W.
