    1822 Tyrer Map -Asia
James Tyrer was a fairly prolific engraver from Pentonville, London who flourished during the early part of the nineteenth century. He is probably best known for his work in Robert Wilkinson's "General Atlas of the World" but was popular with numerous London map publishers. One was John Souter who pubished 'Reverend T. Clark's' A New General School Atlas in 1822. Reverend T. Clark was a pseudonym for John Galt with the pseudonym obviously adding greater gravitas!
This map of Africa comes from that 1822 edition of Clark's atlas. Most of the continent is easily recognisable to the modern eye but the configuration is elongated as is the Kamchatka peninsula in eastern Siberia.
The map measures 7.5" by 9", has a centrefold (as issued), outline hand colouring and is in good condition.
The map is guaranteed to be over 190 years old.
